Piping and plant utilities
Utility work is rarely difficult in itself. It is difficult because the line being modified is feeding something that cannot stop.
The first question on any utility job is what goes down when the line is opened, and for how long. That determines whether the work happens live with a temporary bypass, during a planned stoppage, or in a shutdown. Getting this wrong is what turns a two-day job into a production loss.
Routing is planned against the actual plant, including the services already in the ceiling space, so that supports, drops and takeoffs do not conflict with existing runs. Slopes, drain points and isolation valves are placed where they can be reached for maintenance rather than where they were easiest to weld.
Testing, flushing and recommissioning are part of the scope. A line that has been modified is pressure tested and cleared before it is handed back, and the isolation is removed under the same permit that placed it.
